PCB Designer

About the Position
Based in West Lothian, Kaiam is an emerging market leader in the research, development and manufacturing of optoelectronic equipment used within data-communication centres and the telecommunications industry. Founded by leading technologists from the optical networking industry, the team has a track record of delivering breakthrough approaches that change the rules of the marketplace.

 

In this role, based in Livingston, you will be responsible for designing the dense PCB assembly within high speed optoelectronic transceivers. This will consist of design, development and prototyping leading edge products, and ultimately seeing them through to successful mass manufacture as part of the wider team. In addition, you will be responsible for custom in-house PCBs to support manufacture and test requirements.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:
•  Design high speed, multilayer PCBs for optical transceivers
• Offer design for manufacture advice at all stages of development
• Carry out schematic capture alongside engineers
• Perform post processing and Gerber generation
• Maintain component library
• Liaise with PCB manufacturers and PCB Assembly companies

 

Essential requirements:

•  Qualification in Electrical Engineering (and data communications experience desirable)
• Industry experience of one or more of the following EDA tools:
• Cadence (preferred)
• Mentor Graphics
• Zuken
• Design experience of high speed, multilayer PCBs
• Understanding of Signal Integrity & EMC concepts.
• Design for Manufacture (DfM)
• Understanding of transmission line concepts
• Familiarity with laminates, prepregs & ceramics
• Familiarity with PCB surface finishes
• Knowledge of surface mount PCB assembly including fine-pitched components, BGAs, small passives

 

Desirable:
•  Experience of Analog & Digital design
• Production manufacturing experience

Quality Engineer, RMAs

About the Position

We are now recruiting for a Quality Engineer. Supporting the Quality Manager, your role will include but not be limited to :-

 

• Work with the failure analysis engineering group to help document and create reports of failures (The Failure Analysis Report).
• Work with the engineering group and production group to develop and introduce robust preventive actions to prevent repeat issues.
• Monitor and assess the success of the corrective and preventative actions and create 8D summary reports to supply to the customers.
• Organise and keep track of customer returns and provide weekly status reports.
• Keep all databases and files accurately updated.
• Participate in and support product and process continuous improvement activities based on a range of tools and techniques.
• Undertake other QA tasks within the scope of your expertise as required, (which may include supporting the internal audit program, documentation, calibration, ESD audits……).

• HND or Degree in an engineering discipline

Process Engineering Manager

About the Position

To support our continued growth, we are recruiting for a Process Engineering Manager, reporting to the VP of Engineering. In this hands-on role, based in Livingston, you will be working on managing a team of manufacturing process engineers, spending a significant amount of your time within the ‘cleanroom’ environment. You will also be supporting the day to day engineering issues to help production reach the required output while maintaining a high yield.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Manage a team of manufacturing process engineers
• Coordinate resolution for day to day issues with production
• Manage projects for yield improvement, cost reduction
• Manage projects that will gear towards process flow automation
• Support product and process development for new products
• Present RCA and projects to the management
• Monitor, react and maintain SPC parameters
• Establish OCAPs (out-of-control-action-plans)

 

Essential requirements:

RF/Electrical Engineer

In this role, based in Livingston, you will be responsible for designing the electrical side of high speed optoelectronic transceivers. This will consist of design, development and prototyping leading edge products, and ultimately seeing them through to successful mass manufacture as part of the wider team.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:
•  3D simulation of high frequency optoelectronic packages
• Simulation of gigabit link performance
• Design of high speed, multilayer PCBs
• Characterisation of optoelectronic devices
• Provide production advice & support
• Assist with design of automated RF characterisation rigs

 

Essential requirements:

•  BSc/MSc and/or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field
• Experience of one or more of the following RF design tools: Ansys HFSS, Ansys Electronics Desktop, ADS, Microwave Office
• Experience of designing with transmission lines including microstrip, stripline, coplanar and Differential traces
• Experience of designing multilayer high speed PCBs: schematic capture & layout
• Experience of Analog & Digital design

Shift Equipment & Maintenance Engineer

About the Position

We are now recruiting for Shift Equipment & Maintenance Engineers. Supporting the Facilities Manager, you will be actively involved within the execution of maintenance procedures for new and existing equipment and will be heavily involved within providing technical support for our TOSA ROSA assembly and test production line as well as supporting other departments.

 

Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:-

• Providing shift cover for the maintenance department as well as technical support across all production lines
• Establish and implementing TPM for all production equipment
• Carry out existing preventative maintenance as determined by maintenance schedules
• Actively take responsibility for machine uptime
• Ensure all equipment engineering practices and procedures are carried out in accordance with current health & safety legislation
• Liaise with main equipment suppliers about technical servicing issues as required
• Ensure adequate availability of equipment spares for all manufacturing equipment
• Participate as an active member of the Emergency Response Team and in cross training functions

 

Educated to HND or equivalent within an electrical or electronic discipline the ideal candidate will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to work with excellent communication. Experienced in set up and repair of microscopes and visual aids as well as new equipment installations and repairs this successful candidate must be able to make accurate decisions when under pressure.

 

With excellent fault finding skills you will be proactive and capable of working without direct supervision and enjoy the challenge of working to deadlines to achieve define targets. Previous experience of working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment is advantageous.
