Head of HR

About the Position
Based in West Lothian, Kaiam is an emerging market leader in the research, development and manufacturing of optoelectronic equipment used within data-communication centres and the telecommunications industry. Founded by leading technologists from the optical networking industry, the team has a track record of delivering breakthrough approaches that change the rules of the marketplace.

 

After a period of significant growth, we are looking for a Head of HR, reporting to the CEO, to support the next stage of our organisational development. By partnering with the senior management team, the successful candidate will create HR solutions and strategies that support talent acquisition, development and retention, whilst acting as a positive change agent in support of our people focus. A key challenge will be your ability to successfully influence senior leaders whilst also having a highly hands-on approach in order to get the job done; therefore a strong HR generalist is required.  

 

Key Responsibilities:
Leading the people agenda you will lead the existing HR team in driving HR operational excellence whilst building relationships with key stakeholders within the business and truly getting to understand their needs. Offering insight and guidance on the whole range of HR areas including recruitment and selection, performance and people management, policy and procedure, reward and recognition, talent and succession, workforce planning and employee engagement to drive business results and support growth.

 

This role will see you:

•  Develop and implement an agenda for people & development strategy in line with the business plan
•  Lead, coach and direct the small HR team — ensuring they are developed to fulfil the requirements of their role and to support in their continuous professional development
•  Provide coaching and leadership development to the Senior Leaders and Managers
•  Deliver strategic succession and talent management
•  Deal with complex disciplinary/grievance and HR issues
•  Lead on TUPE transfers, ensuring seamless integration and mitigating risk to the business
•  Carry out due diligence for any potential acquisitions
•  Manage all internal communications ensuring effective messaging
•  Lead on employee engagement
•  Ensure reward and recognition practices attract and retain the best talent

Health & Safety Manager

About the Position
Based in West Lothian, Kaiam is an emerging market leader in the research, development and manufacturing of optoelectronic equipment used within data-communication centres and the telecommunications industry. Founded by leading technologists from the optical networking industry, the team has a track record of delivering breakthrough approaches that change the rules of the marketplace.

 

To support our continued growth, we are recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager, reporting to the General Manager. In this role you will ensure that our employees and also contractors working for or on behalf of Kaiam comply with safety legislation and that safety related policies and practices are adopted and adhered to.

 

We are looking for experienced and innovative individuals who are committed to taking the lead on all operational health and safety matters to ensure a safe working environment for our employees. This however is a standalone role, with minimal administrative support; therefore you must be able and willing to be fully hands on in delivering the necessary actions and outputs of the H&S function.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

•  Develop, implement and manage all systems relating to Health & Safety in the Kaiam workplace.
•  Ensure effective communication of Health & Safety issues to the workforce
•  Conduct and maintain Safety, Chemical and Noise Risk Assessments and measure their effectiveness
•  Review safety data sheets and ensure COSHH requirements are reflected in the chemical risk assessments
•  Monitor and assist department managers to investigate incidents in their area of responsibility
•  Review contractor RAMS, carry out contractor inductions and issue general permit and monitor their work
•  Be responsible for, and where appropriate conduct, amongst other things DSE assessments, RPE Face-fit checks, Fire Marshall training and maintain records of such outputs
•  Perform site inductions for new employees and refresher inductions for existing employees
•  Coach and mentor the Emergency Response Team and measure their effectiveness

•  Chair and oversee the output of the monthly Health & Safety meeting with site safety reps
•  Generate monthly report to reflect H&S performance, highlighting areas of improvement
•  Be assertive, fair and consistent when implementing Company or legislative requirements or when reprimanding contractors or individuals
•  Liaise with the Health & Safety Executive, Environment Agency & other government appointed bodies

 

Essential Requirements:

•  Understand the risks associated with a complex, fast paced manufacturing environment
• Hold a NEBOSH General certificate in occupational health and safety or equivalent
• Must have the ability and confidence to communicate with a wide range of people including management at all levels, employees and external agencies.
• Must be approachable to ensure that the quietest voice within the organization will be heard.
• Demonstrates a pro-active approach to Health and Safety

 

Ideally you will also have the following:

• Degree in a chemical / chemical engineering, electrical / electronic engineering, or mechanical / equipment engineering discipline

Production Operator

Headquartered in California, Kaiam’s operations in the UK began in 2013 when the company purchased the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in West Lothian. Since then, the company has developed and expanded its network and customer base on an international level.

 

In preparation for the future and the natural growth we are experiencing Kaiam will shortly be implementing a significant ramp plan in terms of people, production and new product introduction.

 

We are now recruiting for Skilled Production Operators. Due to the nature of the work the ideal candidate will:

 

•  Possess excellent attention to detail skills
•  Demonstrate great manual dexterity skills
•  Be capable of following written work procedures and graphic representations

 

We are especially keen to speak with candidates who have had experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment and those who have direct familiarity with:

 

•  Pick and place machines
•  Test Equipment
•  Wafer Fab knowledge and practical ability to handle silicon wafers

Shift Leader

About the Position
Based in West Lothian, Kaiam’s operations in the UK began in 2013 when the company purchased the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Since then, the company has developed and expanded its network and customer base on an international level.

 

Kaiam is an emerging market leader in the research, development and manufacturing of optoelectronic equipment used within data-communication centres. Founded by leading technologists from the optical networking industry, the team has a track record of delivering breakthrough approaches that change the rules of the marketplace.

 

With major investment in our site and products we are now looking to hire Shift Leaders for our expanding production team. You will be required to support the Supervisors and Production Manager by taking day to day responsibility in leading, coordinating and motivating a team of operators and technicians. Working continental shifts the Shift Leader will ensure that the group is working efficiently and in unity.

 

In preparation for the future and the natural growth we are experiencing Kaiam will shortly be implementing a significant ramp plan in terms of people, production and new product introduction.

 

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

 

•  Guide, direct, co-ordinate and motivate Operators and Technicians on shift to achieve production targets.
•  Complete daily/weekly production reports and supply to management in absence of Shift Supervisor.
•  Ensure production output sheet is up to date in absence of Shift Supervisor.
•  Identify training requirements, highlighting any issues to Shift Supervisor.
•  Organise shift set up for production operators, ensure targets and equipment set up is clear and concise.
•  Ensure that all work carried out on shift is conducted in a safe manner and that relevant safety precautions are followed.
•  Ensure the operators are trained and aware of quality procedures and work instructions.
•  Assist supervisor of the teams HR/training related issues.
•  Cover for production Supervisor during holidays or absence.

 

The successful candidate will have experience within a production environment and must have experience of working as a team leader.

 

Formal qualifications are advantageous but not essential. This role requires an individual who is able to work under pressure but will remain approachable and confident in their decisions.
